lingual mesh

Asia is home to thousands of the worst subtitlers in the world. We mean those outstanding men and women who gave a whole new dimension to (destroyed the fine dialogues of) the Lord Of The Rings and also gave the world such gems as,

•  I am Aragorn, son of Alfred.

•  And two man. Aragorn, son of Haratron and Borodel of Gondor.

•  Quiet or I'll chop you off.

•  I've hit your important part!
It's important part indeed!

•  Not my cut of tea.

•  Yes! There are so many cops! He will be drowned death if all of us spit on him.

While we aren't asking you to look up to them, we want you to know that the individuals mentioned do have a sense of humour buried deep inside their botched language skills. Taking a teeny-weeny cue from them, we'd like you to kindly clobber us silly with your funny bones, pound us into chortling submission and mostly importantly remember: Don't be a Flubtitler. Be a Funny Subtitler.

script -a-beat

A potential for the creeps and the paranormal is definitely in store here. Inconspicuous objects like the humble wristwatch and a jack-in-the-box, when used with panache could turn sinister and possibly turn the life of a pantophobic into a series of palpitations and never-ending screams. Choose from among the following list of seemingly unrelated human conditions and common everyday objects and weave them into a 15 minute-long script.

There's a saying (freshly made up) that goes,” You won't know it , unless you've seen it on HBO”. On any given night, HBO Tonight will tell me that at 9 pm I will be staring into the face of Mike Myers and not Ellen Page as was previously assumed, which means that previously, I DID NOT KNOW and NOW I DO. KNOW. A few nights later HBO will tell me that for Christmas they have lined up teenage dramas (hurray for Juno!) every weeknight in December, accompanied by bright flashing lights and seductively voiced (female) narrator. Ever since we launched our channel (NOT) we've wanted a cool line-up of our own. And that's where YOU will kindly oblige us. Here's what to choose from,

•  Famous Director (Timeline)

•  Musical and Dance films

•  Animation

•  Films based on Books

•  Action films

•  Gore Films

•  Romantic Comedies

We're not the kind to give away hairy details, but note this – you will need to rely on some pretty good editing skills and a weather eye for flicks to pull through this event, hence the bright flash ing lights.

As of right now, I'm watching a music video. It's neither a short musical nor a trimmed down feature film. They're not much different to look at, but music videos take art direction to whole new level. Directing them is isn't just a challenge; it's a form of art. Not many can manage great visuals that do justice to a song. Understand the relationship between audio and video footage, why they need to complement each other and you're halfway there. sixteen: nine International Film Festival feels your time has come and is waiting to etch the winner's name on the big shiny Best Music Video Award.

Rules & Regulations: -

•  No use of profanity.

•  It has to be shot entirely by you.

•  The video has to be 100% ORIGINAL , which means no footage downloaded from the internet or from any other movie/music video.

•  The duration is 5-6 minutes.

whachyacallit?

Bringing some cheer to the doomed-for-unhappiness Batman can't hurt, even if it involves a blinder with the feisty Olive Oyl. Imagining them ditching their respective beaus (or not, in case of the former) to enjoy dinner at a fancy joint makes for some interesting conversation. Funny run-ins continue with Aladdin waiting tables that night and a potential entanglement with said damsel. Does Aladdin bring Genie and his trusty Flying Carpet into play? Will that headcase Batman play the jealous act? Or will the gangly Miss Oyl fall for irresistible Jessica Rabbit? Shake things up (for better or for worse) and bung us a comic story even the late great P.G. Wodehouse would nod his respectable bald head in appreciation to.

In addition to filling up the speech bubbles we want – within 150 words – a written account of what you think transpires in this explosive situation.

Rules & Regulations: -

  1. Maximum two characters can be added further in the story.
  2. The story should not exceed 150 words.
  3. No use of profanity and abusive language.
  4. Language to be used is English only.

Judging Criteria: -

  1. Creative use of character sketch.
  2. Use of a creative caption.
  3. Creative completion of the story which should be ‘out of the box'.
